1229 AD Part 1: The Loud Year

1229 Adventure Oracle

Cabal Legacy—10% (67, no adventure)

Seeker—10% (7, adventure!)

Regional Produce—10% (30, no adventure)

Multiple Sites—10% (49, no adventure)

Road—10% (15, no adventure)

Tribunal Border—30% (25, adventure!)

Unsafe—10% (4, adventure!)

Regio—30% (3, adventure!)

Our second quiet year VERY much counterbalanced by managing to roll 4 adventures here. Let's see if we can't do them all, and weather the loud year.

Given how many adventures there are, I'm going to compress all the rolls into one section so as not to take over this whole post. Each adventure will be marked 1-4 in the order they are on the adventure oracle.

Difficulty--3, average, EF 12 (1), 6, hard, EF 15 (2), 5, average (3), 1, easy, EF 9 (4).

Origin--10, Religion, recommendation is a local priest or monks (1), 60, Covenant, nearby covenant, neat (2), 39, Hermetic I, Redcap (3), 90, Hermetic 2,  Subject of investigation (4). Looks like the feds are coming for ol' Jabril.

Timing--5, Autumn (1), 4, summer (2), 5, uh-oh (3), 5, oh jeez (4). The rules don't really say anything about multiple adventures happening in the same season, although they do mention that similar stories should likely be combined. That being said, I have separate ideas for each of these, so I might not combine them. Technically, without an extended twilight episode or so many botches and challenges that the adventure REALLY drags, I should be able to get these 3 done in the same season, barring something I'm misreading. I have effectively been treating an adventure season as being taken up completely by the adventure and then "meditating" on the xp, but that's not actually how the solo rules work, it was just a bit simpler for me. So I guess I'm going for it.

Complexity--8, very complex, 3 challenges (1), 10, I have to roll twice and add the results: 4 and 7 for a total of 5 challenges! (2), 5, 2 challenges  (3), 3, 1 challenge (4). Yeesh. At minimum, our summer adventure will take twenty days, not counting potential failures and botches. Our 3 autumn adventures will take, at minimum, 15+14+10=39 days, which is certainly less than a season.

Types:

--1: 42, 89, 44, which means Magic, Thriller/Wilderness, Magic. So much magic in this saga.

--2: 90, 62, 93, 71, 79, which means Thriller/Wilderness, Legal/Diplomatic, my choice, another Legal/Diplomatic, and another Thriller/Wilderness. For my choice, I'll take Social, since it feels like that kind of adventure.

--3: 47, 72, Magic again and Legal/Diplomatic.

--4: 54, Magic.

Now, I could opt out here. But, I am really interested in this chaotic twist of circumstances for Jabril, especially the sheer difficulty that is adventure 2. And like I've said before, he is an adventurer at heart.

So, omens: 4 (1), 2 (2), (3), 5 (4). God, the only not-brutal roll I had for adventure 2 is the omens roll.

To recap:

--in 1229, Jabril has two free seasons, Spring and Winter.

--in Summer, he will be facing an exceedingly complex, difficult adventure relating to the Tribunal Border hook that originates at a local covenant. I already have an interesting idea.

--in Autumn, he will be facing no less than three adventures. One very complex one relating to his Seeker Flaw, kicked off by local priests. The next, a complex adventure relating to the Unsafe hook, initiated by a Redcap. And the last, he will be under investigation for something relating to the Regio, although it's a simple challenge.

If I succeed wildly at these adventures, I will come home with an absolute truckload of xp, confidence, and BP. That being said, there's also the potential for a huge amount of botches. I think that we may have, accidentally, hit the formational character-building year for both Jabril and his covenant.

So! I'm going to go ahead and chop this up into pieces. This update will deal with all the mechanical stuff, as you've already seen, as well as Spring in just a moment. The next will deal with our highly complex summer adventure. I'm not sure if I'll cut the other adventures into their own posts or group them in some way, but Winter will be tacked on to whatever comes last.

Let's get started.

Spring 1229

Jabril looks forward to another peaceful, quiet year spent studying at Siwa. Surely nothing can mar his peace this year. That being said, just to be sure, he studies another one of the lab texts in his stores, Wizard's Leap, with an An requisite to ensure his clothes come with him.
